Mode of action
Metarhizium rileyi works by attaching to the outer surface of an insect, penetrating its body, and growing inside it. By absorbing water and nutrients from the pest’s body, M. rileyi eventually kills the pest from within.
- Spore Attachment
Spores attach to the insect’s cuticle (outer surface), with adhesion strengthened by the innovative formulation. - Germination & Penetration
The spores germinate and penetrate the insect’s cuticle using enzymes and mechanical pressure. - Internal Colonization
Once inside, the fungus proliferates throughout the insect’s body, disrupting vital systems and releasing toxins. - Host Death
The fungus kills the insect within days through tissue damage, nutrient depletion, and toxin production. Feeding is also disrupted before insect death. - Sporulation & Spread
After death, and if conditions are right, the fungus can emerge from the cadaver and produce new spores, which can infect other nearby pests.
