Mode of action
- Colonises wounded and senescing tissue
A protective barrier is formed by the active growth of Trichoderma over wounded and senescing plant tissue. - Establishment and competitive displacement
The fast-growing Trichoderma mycelia prevent the proliferation of pathogenic fungus by securing nutrient sources on the wounded tissue. - Mycoparasitism
Physical parasitism of other fungi by coiling of Trichoderma hyphae around the hyphae of the other fungus. - Production of antibiotic substances
Enzymes and secondary metabolites which inhibit the activity of plant pathogens are produced and released as the Trichoderma grows. - Induced systemic resistance
The presence of the Trichoderma prompts the plant to initiate defensive measures, improving its tolerance to both biotic and abiotic stresses.
